Independent Eye - The Independent Eye is a professional theatre founded by Conrad Bishop and Elizabeth Fuller in 1974, now based in Sebastopol, CA. In 33 years, theyve presented 3000+ performances in 35 states & Canada & Israel, as well as public radio series. They act, write, compose, direct, design and do the dirty work. They also write plays for and do collaborations with other theatres. Their phenomenal acting and puppetry skills have blown away audiences at past Forbidden Puppet Cabarets.
Mary Nagler, Whorls of Wonder Puppets - For nearly forty years Mary has been a performing artist. She has toured with Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus as one of their first Clown College trained female clowns. Puppetry was part of her comic performance with the Circus. In addition to her work as a performer, Mary is an experienced puppet builder and designer. She has worked on myriad puppet styles including the marionettes used in the film "Being John Malkovich,"and has built Muppets (such as crowd favorite Beaker) and puppets for the musical Avenue Q .
Bart Hopkin - Musician, instrument designer, author - Over the years Bart has been active in many facets of music-making including performance and recording, composition and arrangement, instrument making, music education, theater music, and ethnomusicological research. Bart published Experimental Musical Instruments (EMI). Since 1994, he has written several books on instruments and their construction, including the widely used manual Musical Instrument Design.. He has also produced CDs featuring the work of innovative instrument makers worldwide, including the unexpectedly popular collection, Gravikords, Whirlies & Pyrophones. Bart will play music on a variety of unique instruments during lulls in the action as well as composing music for the Fairy Dances!
Basil Twist - Joining us from NY, world renowned Basil Twist is a puppeteers puppeteer. The New Yorker has said about Basil, "No theatre artist in New York is showing more poetic force or technical skill than the puppeteer Basil Twist." Basil Twist has garnered an international reputation as an audacious designer, director and performer. He creates iconic, visionary puppetry worlds with a remarkable range of style and scope appearing in intimate nightclubs to large orchestra halls.
Little Blue Moon Theatre Little Blue Moon's repertoire was inspired by a chance meeting between two loving puppeteers and an aphrodisiac maker, resulting in two exciting and popular seasons of underground theatre at Wild Swan Aphrodisiac Factory in Napa, California. Today Little Blue Moon's award winning, short, humorous theatre pieces with themes of sex, romance and adventure are a festival favorite in Europe and have excited and delighted audiences coast to coast in the U.S.
Obtainium Works - Obtainium Works is the home base of the Hibernian Academy of UnNatural Sciences, based in Vallejo, California. Recently relocated from The Shipyard in Berkeley, it is an on-going Do It Yourself (DIY) group of tinkerers, gearheads, and steam bohemians who fabricate steam-powered art out of repurposed industrial detritus. We are loosely based on the works of Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, and other Victorian-era writers who created an imaginary world where steam technology was considered cutting edge and brave explorers could be propelled by gun powder to the moon! Obtainium Works Genius Inventor Shannon O'Hare will play a starring role in one of the skits, along with a wonderful piece of machinery!
Bernie Beauchamp Puppets In business since 2000, Bernie Beauchamp of Reno, Nevada has developed Beaupromo from a one puppet riverside novelty act into a polished gem of Marionette magic representing the high standards of professional puppet touring companies around the world. Bernie's dancing fire marionettes have been a Forbidden Puppet Cabaret favorite in the past.
Peter Whitehead - Musician, composer, instrument inventor - Peter Whitehead is an instrument builder, performer, songwriter, composer and writer. His instruments are often based on folk instruments from around the world, and feature unusual or found materials in place of traditional ones. He performs his own solo work using these instruments and is a member of Closer To Carbon, a trio featuring bass, cellos, spike fiddles, sampler, percussion, toys and an array of conventional, invented & found instruments. He was a founder-member of the critically acclaimed Mobius Operandi performance group, known for its spectacular large-scale multi-media events. His film scores include City of Ghosts (Matt Dillon '02), 24 Girls & China Diary (Eva Brzeski '97 & '02), Fortune Tell (Robert Strauss '95), Shift (Maxine Moerman '97) and the theme music for the San Francisco International Film Festival ('97).
Allison Daniel, One Flea Circus - Allison is a physical performer with a rich background of training in Puppetry, Mime, Clown, Mask and Acrobatics. She is a graduate of the Flying Actors Conservatory program, as well as Sandglass Puppetry manipulation intensive and a current student of the Clown Conservatory program at Circus Center in San Francisco. Upon moving to the San Francisco bay area, she has been focusing more on creating original ensemble and solo work, with a world of possibilities and ideas to mix and match into a unique world of joy, insanity, and unique perspectives.
Karima Cammell, Castles in the Air - Karima Cammell is an author, painter and book publisher in Berkeley, California. In 2001, Karima opened Castle in the Air, a celebrated shop, studio, classroom, and gallery which recognizes the internal life of the artist and all those who dare to live their dreams. Her books have won several awards including an IPPY and most recently a Gold Medal Moonbeam Children's Book Spirit Award for Imagination. Karima will lead our make a flower fairy audience participation art project!
Magical Moonshine Theatre - Founded in 1979 by Michael and Valerie Nelson, Magical Moonshine Theatre (MMT) performances have been seen coast to coast in the U.S., as well as internationally with performances over 15 countries in 8 different languages. Michael studied puppetry at the International Puppetry Institute with the late Jim Henson of the Muppets. Additionally, Nelson has taught puppet theatre arts at the Napa Valley College; was a California Arts Council Artist in Residency; has been a regular writer for the national journal of puppetry; is a past president of the San Francisco Bay Area Puppetry Guild; and is a past-President of UNIMA-USA. Valerie, in addition to being co founder of MMT is past faculty member of Tennessee Arts Academy, past workshop director of the National Puppetry Festival, and currently, along with Michael, is a California Arts Council Artist in the Schools.
